MLB Future Watch: Austin Hendrick Baseball Cards, Cincinnati Reds – Austin Hendrick was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds with the 12th overall pick in the 2020 MLB Draft. This prospect outfielder has power that should translate to the next level.
Hendrick attended West Allegheny High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He played outfield and pitched. In his freshman season in high school, Hendrick hit .371 with 3 home runs and 20 RBI. As a pitcher he was 5-0 with 34 strikeouts in 37 innings.
His junior season was even better. He batted .327 two home runs, and two triples, with 12 RBI and a .519 on-base percentage. He had 23 walks in 79 plate appearances. This was during the pandemic. Hendrick committed to play at Mississippi State after he graduated from high school. As a top high school player, he played in the Under Armour All-America game and won the Home Run Derby.
Heading into the draft, he was talked about as one of the top prospects. When he was drafted high, he decided against college and turned pro. After he turned pro, there was nowhere to play due to the pandemic. His season was canceled. He was added to the 60-man roster so he could train at Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio.
In 2021, he played in Rookie Ball. Hendrick hit 16 doubles and 7 home runs with 29 RBI. It was a good way to break in.
In 2022, Hendrick played his first professional baseball with the Daytona Tortugas in A-ball. He ended the season in Dayton playing for the Dragons in A+ ball. In 388 at-bats, he had 21 doubles, 21 home runs, 69 RBI, and 16 steals. His 165 strikeouts were something to work on. Lowering that number and raising his .306 on-base percentage was a focus heading into August. By the season’s end, his walk rate was up, and his strikeouts were down. There’s a lot of promise in this player.
Austin Hendrick Baseball Cards Worth Chasing
One card to collect could be Hendrick’s 2021 Bowman Draft. He’s pictured with his home run swing getting ready to uncoil. It’s a nice card.
Another key card is his 2022 Bowman Scouts Top 100 Autograph parallel. The design is great, and the photo jumps off the card.
One final card to chase is his 2022 Bowman Chrome Virtuosic Vibrations. There aren’t that many of those cards out there. It shows him after his follow-through with a fun look on his face and a rainbow background.
