MLB Future Watch: Curtis Mead Baseball Cards, Tampa Bay Rays – Curtis Mead is a second-generation player. His dad, Tim, is a baseball star in his homeland of Australia. He was originally signed by the Phillies in 2018 as an international Free Agent. He was dealt to the Tampa Bay Rays in November of 2019.
During the pandemic, Mead played two seasons in Australia. His extra-base hits weren’t plentiful, but he did hit .309 and .347. During that time, the Rays wanted him to play more third base than first. He has a good arm that they didn’t want to go to waste.
In 2021, Mead rose from A+, to AA and eventually AAA with the Durham Bulls. Hit totals were 38 doubles, 2 triples, 15 home runs, 69 RBI, and a .321 batting average with 4 steals. That was quite a season.
Mead opened the 2022 season in AA with the Montgomery Biscuits. In 56 games, he hit 21 doubles 10 home runs, and 36 RBI with a .305 batting average. That got him called back up to AAA. In his second game there, he collected three hits putting the rest of the league on notice. That was the first three-hit game of his AAA career. In his first 16 games, he had 3 home runs with 14 RBI and a .358 on-base percentage. Mead did strain his elbow in 2022 which put him out a couple of weeks.
Mead got a chance to play in the Futures Game during the 2022 season. Just playing in that game with the best young players shows where his career is going. Mead has a very fast, compact swing. He has good power, especially for doubles.
MLB Future Watch: Curtis Mead Baseball Cards Worth Chasing
The first card to get is Mead’s 2022 Bowman Chrome 1st Rookie. The card has a classic design, and it pictures him at the plate getting ready to give the ball a ride.
A second card to get would be his 2022 Bowman Chrome 1st Yellow Refractor Autograph. The edges with the mix of yellow and the normal chrome make it look aged. He has a neat and clean autograph that collectors will appreciate.
Another card to look for is his 2022 Bowman Chrome 1st Aqua Refractor. The colors look like the sea, and the textures on it are wild. Mead has a chance to be a September callup. If he’s healthy it will probably happen, so start collecting him right away.
