MLB Future Watch: Ed Howard Baseball Cards, Chicago CubsMLB Future Watch: Ed Howard Baseball Cards, Chicago CubsEd Howard was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 2020 MLB Draft. This shortstop grew up in Lynwood, Illinois. As a young man he was a part of the Jackie Robinson West Little League team that competed in the 2014 Little League World Series game.

Howard attended Mount Carmel High School in Chicago, Illinois. While he also played basketball, baseball won out. Howard hit .380 as a sophomore and was voted First-team All-Chicago Catholic League.

As a junior, he hit 12 doubles, 3 home runs with 29 RBI, and a whopping .419 batting average. That got him named to two more all-star teams and the Under Armour All-American Game, The Perfect All-America game, and the inaugural MLB High-School All-Star game. Howard was a budding star who was in demand to be seen by a lot of baseball scouts.

As a high school sophomore, Howard committed to the University of Oklahoma and signed in his senior year.

After the draft, Howard got to compete in Spring Training 2.0 during the pandemic and at least was able to keep his skills sharp.

Howard made his professional debut in 2021 with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans in Low-A East. In 302 at-bats, he hit 9 doubles, 3 triples, 4 home runs, and 31 RBI with 7 steals. Howard then missed a month with a hamstring injury. It was a start for this promising prospect.

In 2022, he played for the South Bend Cubs in High-A ball. In 82 at-bats, he hit 1 double, 1 triple, 1 home run, 11 RBI with 3 steals, and a .323 on-base percentage. His season ended abruptly with a hip injury in May.

Ed Howard Baseball Cards Worth Chasing

One card to get Howard’s 2022 Bowman Chrome Prospects Autograph Card. It’s a nice card and a classic design. Howard is in his Cubs uniform, and he signed these short-printed cards with care.

I really like his 2021 Bowman Platinum Precious Elements Insert. The card has a smaller logo and a nice shot of him getting ready to take a big swing.

One last card is his 2020 Bowman Chrome 1st Draft Card. That has a nice picture of him throwing a ball to first base.
