MLB Future Watch: Gavin Sheets Baseball Cards, Chicago White Sox – Gavin Sheets was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the second round of the 2017 MLB Amateur Draft. His father, Larry, had a major league career. Collectors like players with baseball bloodlines.
Sheets attended Wake Forest to play NCAA baseball. In 2017, he had a banner juior season. He hit .317 with 21 home runs and 84 RBI with 46 walks. His career batting average was .306. Sheets, the team captain, earned honors including First Team All-ACC and ABCA Second Team All-American. He would forego his senior year.
After the draft, he played for two teams ending up in Low-A with the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers where he hit 3 home runs and drove in 25 in 52 games.
In 2018, he played in High-A where he hit 6 homers and drove in 61 for the Winston-Salem Dash.
In 2019, he blossomed in AA for the Birmingham Barons. He hit 18 doubles, 16 home runs, 83 RBI, and a .345 OBP. He was climbing the ladder.
Sheets didn’t play in 2020 due to the pandemic. The team didn’t add him to the alternate training site. That put a chip on his 6’4” shoulder.
Sheets opened in 2021 in AAA with the Charlotte Knights. He hit 15 doubles, 11 home runs, and 46 RBI with a .362 OBP. He got called up to the White Sox and hit 11 home runs with 34 RBI and a .324 OBP in 54 games.
2022 is Sheets’s year to break through. He played a short time in AAA and then got called up again to Chicago. In his first 64 games, he hit 10 doubles, and 7 home runs, two in successive days, with 22 RBI. Sheets has a classic power swing. When he gets his 245 pounds into a pitch, even one that’s tailing away, he can turn around and get it over the fence. Start collecting him now.
MLB Future Watch: Gavin Sheets Baseball Cards Worth Chasing
The first card of Sheets to get is his 2022 Bowman Rookie. It shows him in his classic stance waiting to hit a ball hard.
Another nice card is his 2022 Topps Pristine Baseball Rookie. It’s got a great design and a nice autograph of this American League slugger.
One last card I really like is his 2022 Topps Series 1 Rookie. The design is nice and the look on his face makes me think he went yard.
