MLB Future Watch: George Valera Baseball Cards, Cleveland Guardians – Cleveland signed George Valera as an international free agent in July 2017. They weren’t the Guardians at the time. This sweet-swinging outfielder was born in Queens, New York, and he’s having quite a minor-league career so far.
In 2018, at 17, he hit .333 in Rookie Ball. That was a good start.
In 2019, Valera played much of the season for the Mahoning Valley Scrappers in the New York Penn League in High-A. He hit 7 doubles, 1 triple, 8 home runs, and 29 RBI with a .356 OBP.
In 2020, like many players, he had no minor league season due to the pandemic. He did well at Cleveland’s Alternate Training Site.
In 2021, Valera reported to the Lake County Captains which was now High-A with the new MLB minor league baseball reorganization that took place. He started the season there and ended it with the Akron RubberDucks in AA. His combined numbers were 5 doubles, 4 triples, 19 home runs with 65 RBI, and an outstanding .405 OBP.
In 2022, he started in Akron and ended the season with the Columbus Clippers in AAA. It was a big year for him. Valeral has 25 doubles, 3 triples, 24 home runs with 82 RBI, and a .353 OBP.
Most outlets have Valera ranked as the #2 prospect in the Guardians organization. That’s good news for Cleveland.
Valera has a quick left-handed bat. He has the kind of power that can hit it out in center field or pull it down the right field line. He has speed and at some point, he will play for the Guardians.
One card to get is his 2022 Bowman Chrome 1st. It has a great photo of him showing the intensity of his swing.
Another solid, but harder to get card is his 2022 Bowman Sterling Autograph card. The card shows him batting, and it has one of the most interesting autographs I’ve seen in a long time. This will be a very desirable card to chase after.
One last card is his 2022 Topps Pro Debut card. The photo shows him in his Akron RubberDucks uniform, and the photo shows him getting ready to take a cut at the plate. I can’t stress enough that he’s a must collect.
