MLB Future Watch: Jake Cronenworth Baseball Cards, San Diego PadresMLB Future Watch: Jake Cronenworth Baseball Cards, San Diego Padres – Jake Cronenworth was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the seventh round of the 2015 MLB Amateur Draft. He grew up in St. Clair, Michigan, was a star at St. Clair High School, and then attended the University of Michigan.

As a freshman at Michigan, Cronenworth hit.320 with 12 doubles and 41 RBI with 12 steals. This talent pitched and played as a hitter. He was a Baseball America Freshman All-American. He tailed off a bit in his sophomore season, but his junior year was great. He was fifth in the league in doubles, eighth in RBI and fifth in saves. Showing off his versatility, he had eight saves but also started six games in 20 appearances.

By 2019, Cronenworth was playing for the Durham Bulls in AAA. He relieved some games for the first time since college going 7 1/3 scoreless innings with nine strikeouts. For two teams that season, he hit .329 with ten home runs and 45 RBI. After that, he was added to the Rays 40-man roster.

In December, he was a part of a trade that sent him to the San Diego Padres. In late July 2020, Cronenworth made his MLB debut getting a hit and his first RBI. By early August, he hit his first home run. On August 22nd, he powered his first grand slam as a major leaguer.

In 2021, he made the team and hit for the cycle just after the All-Star Break. He was a reserve. By season’s end, the 27-year-old hit 21 home runs while driving in 71 and scoring 94 runs. Cronenworth plays second, short, and first base. This late bloomer can hit to all fields, and he has power and speed. He’s one of the best stories in baseball this season.

Cronenworth has a sweet swing, and you can see the after shot in his 2021 Topps Chrome rookie card. I have always loved the All-Star rookie trophy on cards, so this is a favorite of mine.

Another fun one is his 2021 Topps Finest auto rookie card. It shows his near perfect stance as he concentrates on the pitcher and what pitch he’s going to see.

The last one to get is his 2021 Topps Gypsy Queen rookie. The picture shows off the torque in his swing, and you can see that by the wrinkles in his uniform. That’s a fun card for sure.
