Garcia Barrero Topps All Star RookieMLB Future Watch: Jose Garcia Baseball Cards, Cincinnati RedsThe Cincinnati Reds signed Jose Garcia, who now plays under the name Jose Barrero, in June of 2017. This Cuban shortstop was an International free agent and at the time his 6’3” frame, athletic ability, and versatility in the field were some of the things that made the Reds very interested in signing this prospect.

In 2018, Garcia played for the Dayton Dragons in A-ball and managed to hit 22 doubles, four triples, six home runs with 53 RBI in his first season.

In 2019, Garcia moved up to A+ ball where he hit 37 doubles, 1 triple, 8 home runs, and 55 RBI with a .280 batting average.

Garcia was named to the Reds alternate training site during the pandemic. That shows that they thought he was one of their top players because not everyGarcia Barrero Chrome Auto prospect had that opportunity. The Reds did promote him, and he played in 24 games. That was a way for him to get his feet wet. That season he played shortstop, but he would go on to play third base, second base, and center field.

When baseball opened up in 2021, he started the year in AA with the Chattanooga Lookouts and ended it in Cincinnati. His combined numbers were 19 home runs, 66 RBI with a .303 batting average.

The Reds seemingly want Garcia to play shortstop. He has a good glove, but his offense is what they cherish. His bat gets through the hitting zone quickly, and as he gets stronger, he will hit for more power. At 23, he’s still scratching the surface on what he can be in the future. He got his start in Cuba, and now he has a chance to be one of the Reds’ best players.

The first card to look for is his 2021 Topps Chrome Rookie. It’s a nice, posed shot of him in his Reds uniform. There is still a place for the posed cards, but we like variety too.

Garcia’s 2021 Topps Series 2 Rookie Card is fantastic. It shows him in his white Reds uniform. I prefer that one, and he’s watching his hit, so he must have gone yard. The look on his face is the look of a tremendous competitor.

His 2021 Topps Gypsy Queen rookie shows off all the other things he wears like his elbow guard. The aged look of the picture makes it stand out. Back in the old days of baseball, they didn’t have those aids. Start collecting this guy, or you might regret it.
