MLB Future Watch: Joshua Baez Baseball Cards, St. Louis Cardinals – Joshua Baez was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals with the 54th overall selection in the 2021 MLB Amateur Draft. This talented outfielder has an interesting story.
He was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and then moved to Santo Domingo as an infant. When he was in the sixth grade, Baez moved to Dorchester, and was back in Massachusetts again.
His first stop was Cristo Ray Boston High School. Then he transferred to Snowden International High School as a sophomore. As a pitcher, he was throwing 97 miles per hour on the gun. At bat, he hit .422 with 20 RBI and 11 steals.
As a junior, he transferred to Dexter Southfield School. He was named Massachusetts Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year due to his work ethic, an upside since Covid-19 canceled his season.
In 2021, with Dexter, Baez played a shortened season hitting .378 with three home runs. He pitched to an ERA of 1.94 with 44 strikeouts in 18 innings.
After the draft, Baez went to the Florida Complex League for Rookie Ball. In 23 games, he had 3 doubles, 1 triple, 2 home runs with 8 RBI, and 5 steals. He really filled the columns.
In 2022, he was sent to two different teams. He started in Rookie Ball again and finished in A-Ball with the Palm Beach Cardinals. His combined numbers were 101 at-bats, with 8 doubles, 1 triple, 4 home runs, 21 RBI, and 10 steals.
Besides having speed and an arm in the outfield, Baez has a short swing with some sting in his bat. Making good contact is also another positive part of his game. One more facet of his game that bodes well for him is his on-base percentage. His best was .418, and his career average is .350 so far. If he can keep that up that will get him to the big leagues for sure. He is 19, so this could take 2-3 more years.
MLB Future Watch: Joshua Baez Cards Worth Chasing
One card to get is Baez’s 2022 Bowman Chrome Draft Sky Blue. It’s a great-looking card, and it shows him in action running from home plate.
His 2022 Bowman Chrome 1st Autograph Prospect Card is nice. It shows him at the plate in his Cardinals whites and his autograph is a good one.
One last card could be his 2022 Topps Pro Debut. The picture tells the story of this one.
