MLB Future Watch: Leody Taveras Baseball Cards, Texas RangersMLB Future Watch: Leody Taveras Baseball Cards, Texas RangersLeody Taveras was signed by the Texas Rangers as an international free agent out of the Dominican Republic in 2015. This outfielder, who just needs more consistency, is loaded with talent. He is close to being a regular for the Rangers.

He started showing good run production in 2017 in A-Ball. Playing for the Hickory Crawdads, he put up tantalizing numbers with 20 doubles, 8 home runs, 50 RBI with 20 steals.

In 2019, Taveras played for two teams ending up with the Frisco RoughRiders in AA. His combined numbers were 19 doubles, 8 triples, 5 home runs, and 56 RBI, and 32 steals.

Taveras was part of the alternate training site during the pandemic in 2020, but he did get a stint with the big club. He had 4 home runs and 6 RBI, but needed more work, so they sent him back.

MLB Future Watch: Leody Taveras Baseball Cards, Texas RangersTaveras was in AAA and the big leagues in 2021. In AAA, he hit 17 home runs with 55 RBI and 13 steals.  In 49 games with the Rangers, he showed more flashes. He was making sliding catches in the field. In Baltimore, he doubled up a runner with a 95 MPH bullet to the plate on a player trying to tag up. He has power and speed and hits to all fields. His long strides make him dangerous when hitting a ball in the gap.

At 23, the organization still wants Taveras to win a job next year. Collectors should be looking at him as a sleeper investment. In winter ball, he’s hitting .318 with 1 home run and 7 RBI in his first 12 games. Playing in the Dominican Winter League should give him a leg up going into spring training, and that’s why the Rangers sent him there.

Taveras’s first card to look at is the 2021 Topps Chrome Rookie Card. The photo shows him tossing his bat, presumably after a big hit. It’s a cool action shot of a player who loves the game.

Another card is his 2021 Topps Triple Threads Rookie Card. It has an on-card autograph, and the photo shows his batting stance. The cards are serial-numbered, but it could be worth the chase in the long run.

One last card to look for is his 2021 Topps Stadium Club Rookie Card. Taveras is wearing a minor league number on his uniform, and you can see the follow through of his swing. It’s a cool card to add to a collection.
