MLB Future Watch: Luis Garcia Baseball Cards, Washington NationalsMLB Future Watch: Luis Garcia Baseball Cards, Washington NationalsLuis Garcia was signed as an international free agent back in 2016. Born in New York, this versatile infielder has a lot of tools. Now at 21, he’s very close to becoming regular in the nation’s capital, where he will bolster the Nationals infield. An opportunity came early for this prospect, and that’s helped spark the player you see today.

By the end of 2018, Garcia was playing in A+ ball with the Potomac Nationals. His combined numbers were good with 21 doubles, six triples, seven home runs, and 54 RBI with 12 steals and a .298 batting average.

In 2019, he started the season with the Harrisburg Senators. Garcia hit 22 doubles, four triples, four home runs, 30 RBI, and 11 steals. At that point, he was no longer playing third base and was sticking to shortstop and second base. In August of 2020, Garcia made his MLB debut. In 134 at-bats, six doubles, and 16 RBI was a starting place.

Garcia has speed and a wide stance at the plate they’ve been trying to augment. He has a lot of talent, but the franchise wants to see consistency. He spent 2021 between the Rochester Red Wings and the big club in Washington to build that. The positive part was that he hit 21 doubles and 19 home runs between the two teams. Six of the home runs were at the major league level. On August 4th, he slugged two at home versus the Phillies. Garcia pulled one and sent one other way. He has a natural swing that gets through the hitting zone quickly and that’s what the Nationals are excited about.

Garcia’s 2021 Topps Chrome Rookie Card shows him in the midst of turning two. His arm is cocked, getting ready to throw the runner out. It’s a nice card.

I love his 2021 Topps In-Action Rookie Card that borrows the beloved 1972 design. Back then they were the first action shots. 99% of the time collectors were looking at posed shots of their favorite stars. It’s something that’s taken for granted today but when I was nine years old, it was a revelation.

Garcia’s 2021 Topps Fire Rookie has a lot of red including his Nationals uniform. The avant-garde background and swing that looks like he just went deep make this a great card to collect. It stands out, and it would stand out in your collection.
