MLB Future Watch: Thayron Liranzo Baseball Cards, Detroit Tigers – Thayron Liranzo is a talentedcatcher with some tools. He was signed for a modest sum back in 2021. It would become evident that the Dodgers had discovered a terrific player. The hit rate on international prospects is still risky to this day.
In 2021, he played in the Dominican League. In 21 games, he had 4 doubles, 1 home run, 9 RBI, and three stolen bases.
At the age of 18 in 2022, he played in Rookie Ball. In 41 games, he had 11 doubles, 1 triple, 8 home runs, and 30 RBI with a .339 on-base percentage.
Then in 2023, he played for the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes in A-Ball. In 345 at-bats, Liranzo had 24 doubles, 2 triples, 24 home runs with 70 RBI, 400 on-base percentage, and a .562 slugging percentage. He set records in the California League for his slugging percentage, home runs, extra-base hits, total bases, plus a few other categories. This was a monumental season.
Liranzo can play catcher and first base. As a catcher, Liranzo has a strong arm. He threw out 27% of base runners. That’s good. He can hold his own on first base, but he’s better as a catcher. That’s where his value lies.
In 2023-24, he played for two teams. Starting with the Great Lakes Loons in A+ and ending with Scottsdale in the Arizona Fall League. His combined statistics were 353 at-bats, with 22 doubles, 12 home runs, 50 RBI with 52 runs scored and a .378 on-base percentage and .408 slugging percentage. He was traded to the Tigers in July.
At 20, he will continue to move up in the Tigers’ system. He has a great battingeye, decent speed for a catcher, and a fast bat with some power. His leg kick helps him with that. The fact that he doesn’t swing at everything gives him better pitches to hit. He’s not the only catcher that has been able to do that, and he fits that mold.
One card to get is Liranzo’s2023-24 Bowman’s Best All-Star Futures Game Auto Relic. It’s serial-numbered and the photo shows him hitting. The autograph is clear.
His 2024 1st Bowman is another good one. The card shows him after his swing.
One last card is his 2024 Bowman Draft, which shows him in his Tigers uniform. Get this player in your collection.
