NBA Decades Fantasy Draft: The 2010s – With the 2020 NBA Draft approaching, Go GTS takes a look back at the history of the NBA with a fantasy decades draft. Four of our scribes will pick one player from each of the 1970s, 80s, 90s, 2000s and 2010s. By Draft’s end, each will have an all-time starting five to be envied.

We come now to a close in Week Five, our  writers picked the players who slayed it on the court in the 2010s. A decade of stability for the league, the biggest change came in 2013 when the New Orleans Hornets changed their nickname to the Pelicans. This opened the door for the Charlotte Bobcats to reclaim the buzzing moniker and, indeed, the Charlotte Hornets were reborn.

The 2010s were also a decade of more disparity than virtually any other time in history. The Golden State Warriors went to five NBA Finals and captured three championships and the Miami Heat hit four finals, capturing the Larry O’Brien Trophy twice. No other team had multiple wins, while the Cleveland Cavaliers (four appearances, one Championship) and San Antonio Spurs (two appearances, one Championship) were the only other two teams to get to the last dance more than once. Other league champs included the Toronto Raptors, Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks.

James Gale Selects: Kawhi Leonard
Can switch and guard every position. Other worldly length and hands. He blocked a key shot in the playoffs with his fingertip. Can score from everywhere on the court. “Board man gets paid” is a great mantra.

Russ Cohen Selects: Luka Doncic
Luka Doncic stars for the Dallas Mavericks. The shooting guard was the third overall pick in ‘18. He’s averaged 24.7 points, 8.5 rebounds and 7.5 assists in his career. The 2019 Rookie of the Year is becoming a top player in the NBA.

Rich Klein Selects: Anthony Davis
We knew he was good but we never realized just how good until the 2019-20 season when he combined with LeBron James to provide a potent 1-2 combination perhaps not seen since the Jordan/Pippen days.

Jon Waldman Selects: Damian Lillard
ROY in 2012-13, five-time post-season All-Star and he’s still in his prime. Lillard is among the league leaders in several categories, year in and year-out, and he has lots of time still on the court.
