NBA Future Watch: Anton Watson Basketball Cards, Boston Celtics – Anton Watson won a state championship in high school and played for a national championship at the college level. Thus, he fits right in with what the Boston Celtics want culturally from him. Watson will be counted on as a vital presence if the franchise is to remain at the top once finances break apart the current core.
At Gonzaga Preparatory School in Spokane, WA, Watson began flashing his considerable combo forward skills by capturing MVP honors as a sophomore with 19 PPG. State titles came the next two seasons. He posted 23 PPG, 11 RPG and 5 APG as a junior and 21.6 PPG, 7.1 RPG and 3.8 APG as a senior. Watson capped off his prep career with several honors. He was unanimous MVP of the state tournament, USA Today All-USA Washington first team, Washington Mr. Basketball and Associated Press 4A Player of the Year. A consensus four-star recruit, Watson enrolled at Gonzaga.
By the time Watson was done with the Zags, he was the program’s #2 all-time performer in steals, behind only John Stockton. Impressive, since he missed half of his freshman year due to shoulder surgery. He competed for the national championship along the way, as well. Watson advanced to 14.5 PPG, 7.1 RPG and .412 3% in his senior season.
Landing with Boston in the 2024 NBA Draft, Watson signed a two-way deal with the team’s rotation already in place. He’ll spend the bulk of the near future with the Maine Celtics. Watson is in the unusual position of looking for his free-throw shooting to catch up to his three-point shooting. He’s a heady defender who has a knack for always being in the right space on the floor. Watson’s capacity to broaden his skills could make him an important player for the Celtics for many years to come.
Watson’s cards and stickers have been on the market since 2023. Autographed samples and several intriguing geometric refractors are available. Parallels and inserts are available.
