The son of a college basketball player, Carlson led Bingham High School to a state championship en route to becoming the top-ranked prospect in Utah. Carlson chose Utah for his college stint, but the move was delayed two years by an LDS Church mission in Manchester, England.
Through five years in a Utes jersey, Carlson kept improving, peaking with 17.0 PPG, 6.6 RPG and .379 3%. As a senior, Carlson became the first Ute since Keith Van Horn in 1996-97 to score 30 points in four games. He was also the first Pac-12 player ever to tally 1,800 points, 800 rebounds, 150 assists, and 200 blocks.
Intrigued by his game, Oklahoma City brought in Carlson, initially for their G League squad – where he posted 18.6 PPG, 9.3 RPG, and 3.1 BPG. From there, Carlson earned two 10-day contracts with the Thunder and then a two-way contract. Carlson’s development has included improving his shooting consistency and offense in traffic. Carlson does have legitimate potential as a stretch big and a good secondary playmaker. Both are very coveted commodities in today’s NBA. The continuing improvement that Carlson continues to flash will force him to the forefront, whether with the Thunder or a team with more opportunities in the pivot.
Carlson has cards and stickers on the market dating to 2023. Bowman’s Best University printed the available cards. On eBay presently, the #94 Green Geometric Refractor, Gold Geometric Refractor, Red Refractor, Orange Geometric Refractor, and Gold Rookie Autographed variation are the most valuable items. Carlson also has many jerseys available, many of them autographed.
