NBA Future Watch: Chris Duarte Basketball Cards, Indiana PacersNBA Future Watch: Chris Duarte Basketball Cards, Indiana Pacers – Chris Duarte has traveled across three countries in his young life – from Canada to the Dominican Republic to the US, specifically New York for the last two years of his high school career. All of this, en route to building a reputation as one of the best scorers in the 2021 NBA Draft class.

Partially due to his family’s travels, Duarte was not as widely known a prospect as some at the end of his prep days, so he passed up scholarship opportunities to establish himself at Northwest Florida State College. Duarte led his team to the Elite Eight in both years at the school. He was named as NABC NJCAA Player of the Year in his sophomore season.

As he had hoped, Duarte’s JuCo career was able to serve as a springboard to a top program, as he suited up for Oregon in the fall of 2019. In both December and January, Duarte turned in 30-point games, the second of which became the first total of 30+ points, 11 rebounds and eight steals posted by a college player since 1999. Duarte’s second season at Oregon was a true breakthrough, as he led the Ducks to the Sweet Sixteen and was named AP Pac-12 Player of the Year and winner of the Jerry West Award as the nation’s best shooting guard. On the heels of that success, Duarte declared for the draft and was selected by Indiana with the 13th pick in July.

Duarte entered the league with fewer questions about his shot than most prospects face, as he is a tremendous shooter across the court – evidenced by his 17.1 PPG on .424 3% in his senior season. Duarte’s defense is very good in many respects, with rebounding, steals and blocks all being features of his game. As Duarte decreases his turnovers, he has the chance to become an above-average playmaker as well.

Few players selected outside the Top 10 in recent history have made the immediate impact that Duarte has, putting up 27 points in the season opener and never falling below 14 points in any of his first six games – and across those same six games, he achieved remarkable consistency on the boards, with either four or five rebounds every time. Duarte is turning heads and establishing himself as a strong early candidate in what will be a hotly contested Rookie of the Year race.
