NBA Future Watch: Corey Kispert Basketball Cards, Washington Wizards – Corey Kispert established himself as one of the greatest winners in Gonzaga history and that covers quite a bit of ground. And although Kispert has been developing on the periphery of the Washington rotation, it should come as little surprise that his new squad is bearing some resemblance to those Bulldog teams of recent vintage.
A sweet-shooting small forward with complementary ball handling skills, Kispert enjoyed a strong high school career that included state championships in his sophomore and junior seasons. Kispert suffered a broken foot in the midst of chasing a three-peat in his senior year. The entirety of Kispert’s prep resume led to status as a four-star prospect and he had the opportunity to stay close to his home in Washington at Gonzaga.
Starting as a rotation player in his freshman year, Kispert advanced to the starting lineup in Year Two. Early the next year really established himself with 28 points against Southern Mississippi and 26 points against North Carolina in a breakout performance in the 2019 Battle 4 Atlantis. Kispert’s junior season saw him advance to .438 on 3%, the baseline for an advancement to .440 in his senior year. Kispert’s game reached full bloom in his last season, with 18.6 PPG, .878 FT% and 5.0 RPG. The culmination for Kispert came in many shapes: Gonzaga’s appearance in the national championship game and individual honors in the form of WCC Player of the Year, Consensus All-American designation and being the recipient of the Julius Erving Award as the top small forward in the nation.
Kispert became one of the rare players in modern times to land at the edge of the lottery with a four-year college career, selected by the Wizards at 15. Cherished for his all-around shooting ability, rebounding, hustle and passing in transition, Kispert’s tireless thirst for self-improvement will serve him well in maximizing his potential. Much of what remains to be accomplished for Kispert involves his workouts. Maximizing strength to fight through screens and athleticism to guard on the perimeter are the remaining areas for targeting development. That leaner-but-stronger version of Kispert is one that should rack up numerous All-Star appearances.
