Son of Memphis Grizzlies assistant coach Anthony Carter, Devin initially competed for Cherry Creek High School in Greenwood Village, CO. Then he moved to Doral Academy Preparatory School in Doral, FL. Carter posted 28.8 PPG and 8.7 RPG before losing the remainder of his senior season to a shoulder injury. Coming off a post-graduate season at Brewster Academy, Carter qualified as a consensus four-star prospect.
Initially landing at South Carolina, opportunities turned out to be slim, leading to a transfer to Providence. In the next two years, Carter saw great improvement in several areas. He went from 13.0 to 19.7 PPG, from 2.5 to 3.6 APG, from 4.9 to 8.7 RPG, from .427 to .473 FG% and from .299 to .377 3%. Capturing the Big East Player of the Year award, Carter entered the 2024 NBA Draft. He ended up as a lottery pick with Sacramento.
Capable of playing both backcourt spots at the NBA level, Carter is working on refining his core abilities. Carter’s baseline skills of excellent transition execution, super court vision, tremendous slashing ability and an increasing ability to shoot anywhere on the floor provide a strong platform for continued improvement. After making a strong impression in the G League, Carter’s second NBA game January 6, 2025, provided some real thrills. He had 13 points, seven rebounds and two assists. Carter will continue to be brought along slowly, but the Kings organization is making it very plain just how big a part of their future that he is.
Carter’s cards and stickers, which have been available since 2022 include cards and inserts from various brands of Bowman: Chrome University, Best University and Inception University. The 2022-23 Bowman U Inception Autographed Orange Foil card is presently one card fetching a hefty price on eBay.
He also has cards in the recently release 2024 Panini Prizm Draft Picks. Collectors can also expect to find his cards in the release of 2024-25 Panini Hoops NBA Basketball.
