NBA Future Watch: Kel’el Ware Basketball Cards, Miami Heat – Kel’el Ware comes to the Miami Heat having already won titles at a few different levels. Ware led the Heat to the 2024 NBA Summer League Title. That, after having made the All-Tournament Team behind 15.7 PPG, 6.8 RPG and 1.8 blocks as he led the USA to the gold medal at the 2022 FIBA Under-18 Americas Championship. It’s unsurprising that Ware has already identified so closely with “Heat Culture.”
Growing up in Little Rock, AR and playing at North Little Rock High School, Ware put himself on the radar by his junior season. That year he posted 16.2 PPG, 9.1 RPG and 4.1 BPG. The next year saw increased production: 20.3 PPG, 12.0 RPG and 5.7 BPG. Ware earned invitations to the Nike Hoop Summit, Jordan Brand Classic, and 2022 McDonald’s All-American Boys Game. He also earned a five-star prospect designation.
Foregoing a nice financial offer from Overtime Elite, Ware committed to Oregon, only to find his opportunities unexpectedly limited. Ware transferred to Indiana, where everything fell into place: 15.9 PPG, 9.9 RPG, 1.9 BPG, 0.6 SPG, .425 3%, 15 double-doubles and 19 multi-block games.
Miami will look to have Ware focus on rim protection and secondary playmaking right off the bat, as he refines his ability to score from all over the floor. Lethal on the lobs already, Ware is elite at playing within himself. However, he’ll have to become more of an energy player to exploit his full array of athletic gifts. Miami is seemingly at least one big-time player away from the championship since at least 2020. If Ware can prove to be legit in his three-point potential, he can truly become that player for the Heat.
