NBA Future Watch: Malik Bowman Basketball Cards, Prospect – Malik Bowman is on the leading edge of the American adoption of European prodigy preparation. He chose to forgo his final year of high school eligibility to sign with Overtime Elite. Like the top players in Europe, Bowman made his full-time job the development of his immense ability.
Bowman, a 6’8” combo forward with a solid and still-developing frame — especially impressive given his vegan diet — built his reputation at Bishop Walsh High School in Cumberland, MD. Attaining a prospect rank of #28 in his class by ESPN, Bowman was recruited by Maryland, Georgetown, Ohio State, Florida State, Xavier, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, Boston College, and Bryant. However, the draw of the Overtime Elite program and the chance to grow his game under experts such as NCAA championship coach Kevin Ollie proved decisive for Bowman.
Bowman made his mark in the Elite program early with 13.0 PPG and 4.9 RPG in the preseason. A perfect fit attitudinally for a situation that provides him with guaranteed income as he develops, Bowman has the kind of motor that all coaches want to see. Bowman can already guard any position on the court except center — and with a bit of additional growth, he can become the rare player able to defend every position!
Rebounding is already a strength for Bowman, with tremendous ability in the paint that can often lead to put-back baskets. Outside and mid-range shooting is strong, as is Bowman’s ability to finish at the rim and his on-ball defense. The addition of secondary playmaking could be the element that really separates Bowman as a draft prospect. Bowman presently brings to the table with character, hustle, and varied abilities. He already has established himself as one of the top hopefuls on the NBA radar.
