NBA Future Watch: Stephon Castle Basketball Cards, San Antonio Spurs – Stephon Castle is a point guard in a shooting guard’s body. He brings a high level of winning to the pros as a member of the 2023-24 NCAA champion UConn Huskies. In short, Castle is just the kind of player that an organization would take to complement their franchise player Victor Wembanyama.
Growing up in Covington GA, Castle suited up for Newton High School, amassing 16.5 PPG, 6.5 RPG and 3.2 APG as a junior. The next year, Castle’s production ascended to 20.1 PPG, 9.5, 4.8 APG, 3.0 SPG and 2.0 BPG. That year he led his team to the Class 7A state quarterfinals. Established as a five-star prospect, Castle was selected for the 2023 McDonald’s High School All-American game. He was also a key part of the US gold medal-winning team at the 2022 FIBA Under-18 Americas Championship.
Castle did not end up following his father Stacey – a teammate of Tim Duncan’s – to Wake Forest. He enrolled at UConn instead. Never in the illustrious history of the Big East did any player win Freshman of the Week more times than Castle’s 11 awards. As a member of the NCAA Final Four All-Tournament Team, Castle played his best basketball down the stretch as Connecticut successfully defended their national championship.
Secured by San Antonio with the fourth pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, Castle brings strong court vision, perimeter and off-ball defense, and the ability to finish at the rim. Expansion of his shooting radius is by far the most urgent task in front of Castle. If he can do that, then he will establish himself as the legitimate superstar counterpart to Wemby that the Spurs are seeking.
Castle’s cards and stickers have been around since 2023, with many parallels and inserts among them. Bowman (Now University, Best University, University Now March Madness and Chrome University) and Topps (Now Draft and Chrome McDonald’s All-American) represent the offerings. In terms of memorabilia, the 2023-24 Bowman’s Best University Prospect Jumbo Relic Autographs Honor Roll and Valedictorian models are certainly coveted.
