We’ll leave the mock drafts and who will be available at what pick to the experts. However, this the current rankings of the top five running backs in this year’s NFL Draft.
Todd Gurley – Georgia
Height: 6-1, Weight: 222
Projected Selection: Top-20 Pick
With two teams in need of a starting running back in the first 20 picks (Jaguars, Chargers) Gurley could be an option for either team, if available. During the 2014 NCAA season, he averaged 7.4 yards per carry with 911 yards and nine touchdowns. He also made 12 receptions for 57 yards.
Melvin Gordon – Wisconsin
Height: 6-1, Weight: 215
Projected Selection: 1st Round
An all-around athlete, skilled in every aspect of the game. He averaged 7.5 yards per carry in 2014 for 2,587 yards with 29 touchdowns. Gordon also caught three passes for 153 yards and three touchdowns as well.
T.J. Yeldon – Alabama
Height: 6-2, Weight: 226
Projected Selection: Bottom 1st Round to top 2nd Round
Could be a key pick for a team in the second round. He averaged five yards per carry for 979 yards with 11 touchdowns in 2014. He also had 15 receptions for 180 yards and a touchdown.
Jay Ajayi – Boise State
Height: 6-0, Weight: 221
Projected Selection: 2nd or 3rd Round
This guy has a superb skill set with power, speed, balance and versatility. He averaged 5.4 yards per carry for 1,689 yards with 25 touchdowns last year at Boise State . He also snagged 45 receptions for 536 yards and four touchdowns.
Tevin Coleman – Indiana
Height: 5-11, Weight: 206
Projected Selection: 2nd or 3rd Round
Despite some medical concerns, Coleman still ranks number five in his class for the position. He averaged 7.5 yards per carry for 2,036 yards with 15 touchdowns last year. He also piled up 25 receptions for 141 yards as well.
