NFL Future Watch: 2022 NFL Draft Safeties To Collect, Part 8 – The safety position is very important. If a receiver or running back comes barreling down the field, the safety is the last line of defense. Today, players in this position are much bigger and stronger than they were a few decades ago.

1. Kyle Hamilton was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens with the 14th overall pick. This Notre Dame product is a great athlete. He’s 6’4”, 220 pounds but has the closing speed to get to any receiver to tackle or knock down a pass. Hamilton ran 4.59 in the 40-yard dash. He has taken turnovers to the house. After a few seasons, he will be one of the Ravens’ leading tacklers. You can mark it down now.

2. Daxton Hill was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals with the 31st overall pick. His 4.38 time in the 40-yard dash is amazing. He has long arms to wrap up runners or knock down passes. Hill has good hands to make interceptions and hits hard even though his size isn’t linebacker-like. Hill can also motor around the end or through the middle to be an occasional pass rusher too.

3. Lewis Cine was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings with the 32nd overall pick. At 6’2”, 199 pounds, this former standout at Georgia was a National Champion in 2021. Cine is physical and skilled at knocking down passes. He is known for “setting the tone” in games.

4. Jaquan Brisker was selected by the Chicago Bears with the 48th overall pick. This Pittsburgh native has the right measurables and he attended a university known for good defense, Penn State. His impressive vertical helps him jump up for interceptions and to break up passes. He utilized an extra year of eligibility in the pandemic which helped him develop more. At the age of 23, you can imagine that he could see a lot of playing time for the Bears.

5. Bryan Cook was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs with the 62nd overall pick. In high school in Ohio, Cook played on both sides of the ball. He made tackles on defense and caught touchdowns on offense. Cook started at Howard University and ended at the University of Cincinnati. Don’t worry that the Chiefs drafted two safeties. Cook could be on the strong side, with Nazeeh Johnson on the weak side. The Chiefs may use him as a linebacker on passing downs as well.
