In his senior year in high school, he had 49 receptions for 795 yards and 11 touchdowns. That season, he was named 2019 Tennessean Region 5-6A Athlete of the Year. He went to Georgia afterward.
In 2021, he enrolled at the University of Georgia. He played in 15 games, starting 12 of them at wide receiver. As a freshman, that’s a solid start. He had 29 receptions for 426 yards and four touchdowns. His long was 40 yards. Mitchell was off and running. They won the National Championship that year and he caught that 40-yard pass for a touchdown in that game.
In 2022, Mitchell had an ankle injury in week 2 and that shortened his season severely. He only played in six games. On the season, he had just nine catches for 134 yards and three touchdowns. He did play in the SEC title game and caught an important two-point conversion en route to another National Championship. After the season, he transferred to UT.
At Texas, he had a big season in 2023. This was a chance to re-invent himself and he did. Mitchell played in 14 games catching 55 passes for 845 yards and 11 touchdowns. His long was 62 yards and he averaged 15.4 yards per catch and over 60 yards per game. He received Big 12 Offensive Newcomer of the Year honors and Second-team, All-Big 12 honors too.
Mitchell entered the NFL Combine with a lot of momentum. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.34 seconds with a vertical leap of 39.5 inches and he was clocked at 18.85 MPH.
