This slight but speedy receiver has good hands, and his hard work has managed to get him into NFL games.

The Houston, Texas native played high school ball at Eisenhower. He left there as the all-time leader in career receptions with 230, yards with 2,782, and receiving touchdowns with 38.

Darden committed to the University of North Texas. In his freshman season, Darden caught 32 passes for 281 yards and three touchdowns. He added a punt return for a touchdown as well. He’s a versatile player who can help his team in a lot of ways.

In his sophomore season, he caught 48 balls for 575 yards and four touchdowns. He averaged 12.4 yards on punt returns as well.

In Darden’s junior year, he caught 76 passes for 736 yards and 12 touchdowns. He added another 108 yards on punt returns.

His senior year was his best. Darden had 74 catches for 1,190 yards and 19 touchdowns! As his wide receiver use went up, his use as a punt returner went down. In 2019, he was first-team All-Conference. In 2020, he leveraged that into a Unanimous All-American and Conference USA MVP, a positive sign that his career was trending up.

Darden ran a 4.46 in the 40-yard dash on his pro day. His 35.5 inch vertical and 11 reps on the bench should have told teams this 5’8”, 175-pound player could handle the rigors of the NFL. But it wasn’t enough, and he slipped into the fourth round.

Darden got a total of 378 return yards in his rookie season. That was his biggest role, but when star wide receiver Antonio Brown removed his shirt and ran off the field at Met Life Stadium, Darden got in the game, and Tom Brady found him six times for 46 yards. Now he’s expected to be on the playoff roster as well and he could be a factor as a receiver.
