NFL Future Watch: Jalen Tolbert Football Cards, Dallas Cowboys – Jalen Tolbert was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the 3rd round of the 2022 NFL Draft. This wide receiver first starred at McGill-Toolen Catholic High School in Mobile, Alabama. He played baseball, basketball, and football.
In his senior year in high school, Tolbert became a starter. He had 37 receptions for 696 yards and nine touchdowns. As a two-star recruit, Tolbert had some good college choices and settled on the University of South Alabama.
After suffering a pre-season knee injury, Tolbert red-shirted his freshman season at South Alabama. A smart move so he wouldn’t lose any eligibility.
The next year, he was a redshirt sophomore. He had 27 receptions for 521 yards and six touchdowns. That was a productive season, but the best was yet to come.
Tolbert was named to the All-Sun Belt Conference as a redshirt junior in 2020. He caught 64 passes for 1,085 yards and eight touchdowns. The touchdowns tied a school record. His passes caught and yardage were school records.
In 2021, he was the Conference’s Offensive Player of the Year as well as a first-team selection. His 82 receptions for 1,474 broke his school records, and his eight touchdowns tied another record once again.
He was ready to compete in the 2022 NFL Combine. He lit up the 40-yard dash with a 4.49 time. A 36” vertical jump combined with speed ensured being drafted. However, it was interesting that he wasn’t selected until late in the third round.
As expected, Tolbert made the team out of camp. As expected it’s been hard for him to get regular playing time. Dak Prescott likes Tolbert. He called him before he was drafted. Tolbert has caught two of the three targets he’s had so far this season. At some point, maybe next year, he will play a bigger part in their offense.
