NFL Future Watch: Kyren Williams Football Cards, LA Rams – Kyren Williams was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. This smaller running back is a powerful runner with a lot of talent. It all started for Williams in St. Louis, Missouri.
Williams attended St. John Vianney High School. In his junior season, he rushed for 922 yards and 22 touchdowns. Adding to that, as a receiver, he caught 51 passes for 774 yards and 12 touchdowns.
In his senior season, Williams rushed for 2,035 yards and 26 touchdowns. He caught 55 passes for 725 yards and played some defense as well! To nobody’s surprise, he was named the St. Louis Metro Area Offensive Player of the Year. Rated a three-star recruit, the University of Notre Dame wanted him, and he accepted. Williams turned down four other schools.
Williams was an early enrollee at Notre Dame and was a true freshman. In an odd move, he played the first four games and sat the rest of the year. Hence, he didn’t burn a year of eligibility.
In 2020-21, Williams played in all 12 games. He rushed 211 times for 1,125 yards and 13 touchdowns. His long run was 65 yards. He caught 35 balls for 313 yards and a touchdown. His long reception was 75 yards. He won the ACC Rookie of the Year Award and was voted to the Second-Team All-ACC.
In 2021-22, he played in all 12 games once again. He had 204 rushes for 1,002 yards and 14 touchdowns. His longest run was 91 yards. He added a career-high 42 catches for 359 yards and three touchdowns. Williams received Sporting News Second-Team All-American honors. He was also a finalist for the Paul Hornung Award for versatility. When December rolled around, Williams declared for the 2022 NFL Draft.
At the 2022 NFL Combine, he ran a decent 4.65 in the 40. At 5’9”, 194 pounds, leg strength was going to be in his wheelhouse. He had a 32” vertical and a 9’8” broad jump. He was good but not great.
In the early part of the NFL season, Williams only got one carry for nine yards in week 10 because of an ankle injury. He should start having an impact.
