The Chandler, Arizona native is one of five siblings. He and his younger brother, Brady, played at Hamilton High School. MLB star Cody Bellinger was there at that time. After high school, Shough committed to Oregon. He had a chance to play for several schools since he was a four-star recruit.
Shough only played 18 snaps and was a red-shirt freshman. In 2019, he was Justin Herbert’s backup. He played in eight games off the bench and threw for 144 yards and three touchdowns.
In 2020, Shough was the starter. During a pandemic shortened season, he played in just seven games. He had 106 passes for 1,559 yards and 13 touchdowns against six interceptions and two touchdowns on the ground. Shough lost to Brock Purdy and Iowa State in the Fiesta Bowl. When the season ended, he entered the transfer portal.
In 2021, he played for Texas Tech. In four games, he completed 64 passes for 872 yards and six touchdowns against three interceptions. He mixed in two rushing touchdowns too.
In 2022, Shough played in seven games completing 106 passes for 1,304 yards with 7 touchdowns and four interceptions. He ran for 269 yards and four touchdowns.
In 2023, he played in four games as the starter. Then he suffered a season ending leg injury. He threw for 746 yards with seven touchdowns and four interceptions. Additionally, he ran for two scores. At the end of this season, he transferred to Louisville.
2024 was his finest season, in 12 games Shough threw for 3,195 yards and 23 touchdowns with just six interceptions. He ran for one touchdown. This was his finest year and he was ready for the NFL. The Saints have liked what he brings in OTAs.
