NFL Future Watch: Xavier Legette Football Cards, Carolina Panthers – The Carolina Panthers drafted Xavier Legette with the 32nd overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. This 6’1” wide receiver has a frame of 221 pounds, exactly the body type that succeeds in the NFL today.
Legette graduated from Mullins High School in South Carolina. He was a quarterback in his senior year rushing for 1,826 yards and 19 touchdowns. He had 14 passing touchdowns too.
Legette saw action in 11 games on special teams and wide receiver his freshman season at University of South Carolina. Against Clemson, he caught 80 yards and a touchdown with four kickoff returns for 113 yards.
In 2020-21, as a sophomore, he had just 7 receptions for 113 yards with a long of 42. Injuries sidelined him for most of the season, making it a tough year for him.
In his junior year, he played in 11 games, starting four of them. He caught eight passes for 63 yards and a touchdown. He had a game-winning catch vs. Vanderbilt. Again, injuries affected this season.
In 2022-23, as a senior, he had a kickoff return of 100 yards and a touchdown vs. Texas A&M. It was the second longest in team history. Legette started seven games out of 13. He had 18 receptions for 167 yards and three touchdowns. Then, in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl vs. Notre Dame, he had seven catches for 78 yards and two touchdowns. One was a memorable 42-yard reception.
In 2023-24, he took advantage of an extra year of eligibility. He started in all 12 games. This was his year. Legette made 71 catches for 1,255 yards and seven touchdowns. He was named the 2023-24 South Carolina Male Athlete of the Year and First-Team All-SEC according to multiple networks. Additionally, he was a Blanchard-Rogers Trophy Finalist.
So far in the 2024 NFL season, he has 22 catches for 211 yards and three touchdowns. Though he’s had small injury issues, his season has been solid.
