NHL Future Watch: Alex Barre-Boulet Hockey Cards, Tampa Bay Lightning – Alex Barre-Boulet was an undrafted player, but the Tampa Bay Lightning signed him in 2018 as a free agent. We’ve read about this before, and it happens. There are a lot of good players who don’t get drafted and have had good NHL careers, some great. The key is getting that NHL playing time. Barre-Boulet has worked hard to get that.
From 2014-17, he played for Drummondville in the QMJHL. He had 188 points in 170 games before he was traded to Blainville Boisbriand. In the latter part of 2017, he went on a nice playoff run with them playing in 20 games where he scored 14 goals and had 17 assists.
In 2017-18, Barre-Boulet scored 53 goals in 65 games. He had 116 points, and he won the Jean Beliveau Trophy for having the most points in the “Q.” He was the league MVP, and he won the CHL Player of the Year Award. Those accolades got him signed.
In 2018-19, his first season with the Syracuse Crunch in the AHL, Barre-Boulet shined again with 34 goals and 34 assists in 74 games. After going on a short playoff run, he took home some hardware. He was voted to the All-Rookie Team. This forward had the most goals in the AHL for any player and the Rookie of the Year Award as well.
In 2019-20, Barre-Boulet had 56 points in 60 games. Again, in the AHL with the Crunch.
At 5’10”, 181 pounds, Tampa was waiting for Barre-Boulet to get stronger to be able to handle the rigors of the NHL. He doesn’t have blazing speed, so it was fair to do that.
In 2021, he split time during the pandemic. Barre-Boulet did get to play 15 games with the NHL where he scored three goals. His team did win the Stanley Cup for the second time.
In 2021-22, the Lightning waived Barre-Boulet, and the Seattle Kraken picked him up. After playing two games and scoring one goal, Seattle waived him, and Tampa picked him back up. Meanwhile, in the AHL, he scored 63 points in 58 games. Barre-Boulet played in 14 games in Tampa this season scoring five points. On a stacked Cup contender trying to three-peat, he’s patiently waiting his turn at the age of 24. The talent is there and should translate.
Cards Worth Chasing
The first card to get would be Barre-Boulet’s 2021-22 Upper Deck Series 1 Young Guns Rookie Card. The card has a great design, and the photo shows him getting back on defense.
Another one is his 2021-22 Upper Deck MVP Rookie. It shows him in warmups.
His 2021-22 O-Pee-Chee Marquee Rookie Card is the final card to look at. The blue sweater makes this card.
