NHL Future Watch: Arturs Silovs Hockey Cards, Vancouver Canucks NHL Future Watch: Arturs Silovs Hockey Cards, Vancouver Canucks – Arturs Silovs was drafted by the Vancouver Canucks with the 156th overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft. This Latvian goalie has size at 6’4.” He’s snuck up on many of us and is quickly becoming the surprise goalie of the season.

Back in 2017-18, he played for SK Riga 17 besides playing in the Russia U17 league. He posted a 2.28 goals-against average with one shutout. In the playoffs, he posted a 3.22 goals-against average in six games.

In 2018-19, he played in 20 games for HS Riga. The netminder posted a .914 save percentage and a 3.26 goals-against average with two shutouts. Then he played in the MHL in Russia posting a .920 save percentage with a 2.45 goals-against average in seven games. Silovs shined internationally playing in the U18s posting a .918 save percentage and a 3.32 goals-against average in five games.

In 2019-20, Silovs came to North America to play for the Barrie Colts in the OHL. In 36 games, he had a .891 save percentage with a 3.87 goals-against average. He was 16-13-4. It was a good year of development. When a goalie comes to North America, the rinks are usually smaller than their country and the angles are different in most cases.

In 2020-21, it was the height of the pandemic, and he played in just six games in Latvia on loan to two different teams. It was better than nothing. He did get to play in one game for the Manitoba Moose and posted a .920 save percentage in the loss.

In 2021-22, he played in the ECHL and the AHL with the Abbotsford Canucks. He played 20 games in all and posted a 9-9-1 record overall. Silovs played in the World Championships at the end of the season and was 2-2 with a .952 save percentage in four games. That was outstanding, but it didn’t gain him a lot of notoriety.

In 2022-23, he played in 44 games for Abbotsford including a postseason where he posted a .914 save percentage. He got in five games for the Canucks posting a 3-2 record.

In 2023-24, he played in 34 games for Abbotsford and four more for the Canucks. His numbers were okay. Then he was the emergency playoff goalie and got in after two injuries posting a 3-2 record early on with a .908 save percentage.
