NHL Future Watch: Brandt Clarke Hockey Cards, Los Angeles Kings – Brandt Clarke was drafted with the eighth overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft by the Los Angeles Kings. This fast, offensive defenseman can be a catalyst for a team’s offense, and that’s why the Kings drafted him. It’s hard to find players like this.
In 2019-20, he joined the Barrie Colts and scored 38 points in 57 games during his rookie season and was named to the CHL All-Rookie Team. He led all rookies with 32 assists as well. A great start for the prospect. During that season, he represented Canada Black in the U17s and had six points in five games.
In 2020-21, Clarke played in Slovakia during the pandemic. His brother Graeme, a Devils draft pick, joined him for a short time. Brandt scored 15 points in 26 games. During that year, he represented Canada again at the U18s, and he scored seven points in seven games. He was named to the WJC All-Star Team, and he took home a gold medal.
In 2021-22, Clarke was the captain of the Colts. He scored 11 goals and recorded 48 assists in 55 games. That season, he was named to the OHL Second All-Star team. Clarke has speed, a great shot, and a smart hockey brain. He processes information quickly, any level he plays at, it doesn’t take long for him to start to figure it out by the second season.
Clarke played in three leagues and international play in 2022-23. He had 23 goals and 38 assists in 31 OHL games. In the playoffs, he had 23 points in 12 games. Clarke added five games with the Ontario Reign in the AHL getting two points. He got another two points in the NHL with the Los Angeles Kings. During that season, he played in the U20 World Junior Championship, scoring eight points in seven games. Clarke helped lead Canada to the gold medal.
