NHL Future Watch: Frank Nazar Hockey Cards, Chicago Blackhawks – The Chicago Blackhawks drafted Frank Nazar with the 13th overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft. This 5’9” speedster has a lot of talent that will ignite the fan base when he’s there full-time.
This Detroit native played a few seasons closer to home, and his biggest step was playing for the NTDP in 2020-21. They’re located in Plymouth, Michigan so his family could watch him develop as a prospect. In 47 games, with the U17 team, he had 30 goals and 28 assists in 47 games. With the USHL squad, he added 36 points in 31 games. He excelled wherever he played.
In 2021-22, with the U18 team, he had 28 goals and 42 assists in 56 games. He added 35 points in 15 games with the USHL squad. He teamed up with players like Logan Cooley (Utah), Cutter Gauthier (Anaheim), and Lane Hutson (Canadiens), to name a few. Internationally, he played in the U18s and had three goals and six assists in six games for Team USA. Nazar was a big reason they won a silver medal.
In 2022-23, he played at the University of Michigan. An injury robbed him of most of his season, but he did have seven points in 13 games and scored with an assist in the NCAA tournament first-round win over Colgate. It was a partial season, but he also had a chance to shine in the BioSteel All-American game.
In 2023-24, Nazar had a big year. He had 17 goals and 24 assists in 41 games. He scored twice in the B1G Tournament first-round series against Michigan State University. Then he got a big goal against North Dakota in the NCAA regional semifinal. When his season ended, he got a three-game stint with the Blackhawks and notched his first NHL goal. During that season, he played in the World Juniors and had eight assists in seven games representing Team USA. He walked away with a gold medal.
In 2024-25, he started the season with the Rockford Ice Hogs. In his first 14 games, he had eight goals and eight assists.
