NHL Future Watch: Jackson LaCombe Hockey Cards, Anaheim Ducks – The Anaheim Ducks drafted Jackson LaCombe with the 39th overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft. This defenseman has size, speed, and offensive ability.
After attending Shattuck St. Mary’s, a legendary prep school, he had a cup of coffee in the USHL. He then went to the University of Minnesota, his hometown team, in 2019-20. In his freshman season, he scored 3 goals and added 10 assists in 37 games. He was named to the B1G All-Rookie Team. It was a good start.
In his sophomore season, the defenseman had a breakout offensive season. He scored four goals and 17 assists in 27 games. During that season, he was a part of Team USA’s World Junior squad. He walked away with a gold medal and one point in six games. LaCombe was named to the NCAA West Second All-American Team. He was a B1G Champion as well. It was a great year of development.
2021-22, his junior season, was a big one. He scored three goals and added 27 helpers, good for 30 points in 39 games. It was another nice season and a real progression with his offensive game.
His senior season was another good one. He wore the “A” and had nine goals and 26 points in 35 games. He never won a National Championship, but his teams were good. When he turned pro, LaCombe played two games in Anaheim to finish the season.
In 2023-24, LaCombe made the team out of training camp. He’s still never played in the AHL. He played in 71 games in his rookie season scoring two goals and adding 15 assists. It was a season to learn the game at a different level, but his offense was peeking through. That’s why he’s very collectible.
LaCombe stayed in school and got bigger, faster, and stronger. He’s now 23, and ready for the NHL. He wins puck battles and that will give him a lot of ice time. He got some power play time that may grow in the future. He’s already a trusted penalty killer and he averaged 19:26 minutes of ice time, a lot for a rookie. LaCombe has a good shot that gets on the net and makes things happen for his teammates. Get in on this rookie early before he starts to put up bigger numbers.
