NHL Future Watch: Jeremy Swayman Hockey Cards, Boston Bruins – Every championship team needs a #1 goalie. The Boston Bruins have always had a good goalie leading the way. Since the retirement of Tuukka Rask, there has been competition. It seems Jeremy Swayman is in the thick of it. The Bruins were hoping he would be the guy when they drafted him 111th overall in the 2017 NHL Draft.
Swayman hails from Anchorage, Alaska. He did play high school hockey there until heading to the USHL for a season in 2016-17 with the Sioux Falls Stampede. After playing a solid 32 games there, he headed for the University of Maine.
In 2017-18, his freshman season was magical. In 31 games, he had a 2.72 goals against average, and a .921 save percentage. During that season, Swayman reeled in a bronze medal at the U20 World Junior Championship. Getting named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team put a nice bow on the season.
In 2018-19, Swayman played in 35 games and posted a .919 save percentage. He was named to the Hockey East Third All-Star Team.
Swayman had a special year in 2019-20. He posted a .939 save percentage and a 2.07 goals against average. That year he was a Hobey Baker Finalist, and he won the Mike Richter Award as the NCAA’s best goalie. He was the Hockey East Player of the Year and voted to the First All-American Team. Swayman was ready to turn pro.
In 2020-21, during the pandemic, he played nine games with the Providence Bruins posting a .933 save percentage. He played ten games with the Boston Bruins posting an insane .945 save percentage, and he got in a playoff game! That next season he was to battle for the #1 netminder job.
During the 2021-22 season, he became the top netminder. His 23-14-3 record helped get his club into the playoffs and Swayman posted a .911 in five games there. He also got to take part in the World Championships for Team USA and won his first game there.
Cards Worth Chasing
The card to get is Swayman’s 2021-22 Upper Deck Series 1 Young Guns Rookie. It’s a nice photo of him getting ready to face a shot.
Another card is his 2021-22 Upper Deck MVP Rookie. It’s a good shot of him in net.
One last one that stands out is the 2021-22 O-Pee-Chee Glossy Rookies card. It’s got a lot of gold, and Swayman is in the net looking down the ice.
