NHL Future Watch: Jordan Harris Hockey Cards, Montreal Canadiens – Jordan Harris was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens with the 71st overall pick in the 2018 NHL Draft. Montreal saw a lot of promise in this defenseman and may have gotten a steal in the process.
Growing up in Haverhill, Massachusetts, his father played college hockey for UMass Lowell. While his father was a goalie, Jordan took a different route. He eventually attended Kimball Union Academy, a boarding school. He had three solid seasons there. Harris scored 18 goals with 64 assists in 111 games. He was a star lacrosse player as well.
In 2018-19, he attended Northeastern University. Harris had 13 points in 39 games. For a potential offensive defenseman, those are good freshman numbers. That season he was a Hockey East champion.
In his 2019-20 sophomore season, his numbers rose to 21 points in 33 games. During that season, Harris represented his country playing for Team USA in the U20 World Junior Championship. In five games he scored one goal. However, playing in that tournament against the best players in the world is a boost to a player’s confidence.
In 2020-21, while wearing the “A”, Harris scored six goals and 13 assists in 19 games. A great season, especially for a defenseman. At the season’s end, he was named to the Hockey East Second All-Star team.
In 2021-22, as team captain, Harris had five goals and 15 assists in 39 games. Northeastern were Hockey East champs again. He won the best Defensive, defenseman award, showing his versatility as a two-way player. And he was on the First All-Star team. He turned pro and got to play in ten games for the Canadiens. He got his first NHL goal that season.
In 2022-23, Harris made the Canadiens team out of training camp. At 22, he seemed ready. In his first 24 games, he had a goal and eight assists. He was a +2 on a mediocre team which is a great sign that he’s able to take that defensive prowess, along with his offense, to the NHL.
