NHL Future Watch: Pyotr Kochetkov Hockey Cards, Carolina HurricanesNHL Future Watch: Pyotr Kochetkov Hockey Cards, Carolina HurricanesPyotr Kochetkov was drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes with the 36th overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft. After the was drafted, the 6’2” goaltender went back to Russia to continue his career. This happens with a lot of Russian prospects, and the NHL must wonder when they will play in North America. I sensed they got a feeling Kochetkov would come a few years after the draft, so they used a valuable draft pick on him.

In the MHL, a level of play similar to the ECHL, Kochetkov played in 31 games for Kapitan Stupino in 2017-18. He had a 3.28 goals-against average and a .917 save percentage.

2018-19 was a big year for him. He played in 18 VHL games where he had a .930 save percentage and a 2.13 goals-against average. During that season Kochetkov starred for Team Russia in the World Juniors. In five games, he had a 1.45 goals-against average and a stellar 9.53 save percentage. The Russian was voted Best Goalie and pocketed a bronze medal. Before the season ended, Kochetkov got into two KHL games with HK Sochi.

In 2019-20, during the pandemic, the talented Russian played at almost every level including six games for Ska St. Petersburg. He was 3-3. Kochetkov played six more games there the next season too.

In 2021-22, he played 23 games in the KHL for Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod. He had a 2.23 goals-against average and a .926 save percentage. During that year, Kochetkov came to America and played 15 games for the Chicago Wolves in the AHL. In 15 games, he had a .921 save percentage. In six playoff games he posted a .950 save percentage. He then was elevated to the NHL, playing three games for the Hurricanes with a .902 save percentage. Because of injury, he got in three playoff games.

Another option is the high-gloss version of his Young Guns Rookie. They are hard to find.
