NHL Future Watch: Zach Dean Hockey Cards, St. Louis Blues – The St. Louis Blues drafted Zach Dean with the 30th overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft. This speedster has a scoring touch, but he had to get stronger and better in his defensive efforts.
In 2019-20, the center played for Gatineau in the QMJHL. In 57 games, he had 18 goals and 28 assists, a very good first season. Consequently, Dean was named to the QMJHL all-rookie team.
In 23 games, he had 10 goals and 10 assists in 2021-22. Then, in four playoff games, he got two points in the pandemic shortened season. The positive was getting play at all. It likely didn’t stunt his development as it did others.
Then, in 2022-23, Dean stood out with 33 goals and 37 assists in just 50 games. Then Gatineau had a nice playoff run and the center scored 10 goals with 16 helpers in 13 games. During that season, he played for Team Canada in the World Juniors and had three points in seven games. Even though he was the most penalized player, he still took home a gold medal in that tournament.
In 2023-24, Dean got his nine-game cup of coffee with the Blues and had no points in nine games. He played for the Springfield Thunderbirds for the rest of the season, and he scored nine goals with five assists in 49 games.
It is expected that Dean will play the entire 2024-25 season with Springfield. At just 21, he needs the ice time and must have a more impactful season compared to last season. He has talent, speed, and scoring touch. The rest will come. It’s just a question of when he will put it all together.

Dean’s best card is the 2024-25 Upper Deck Series 1 Young Guns Rookie. He’s pictured in his Blues sweater and getting ready to get the puck. It’s a nice card with a clean design.
Another card to get is his 2024-25 Upper Deck Series 1 Young Guns Rookie Canvas. This card shows him in his blue uniform and shows the curve of his stick. It’s a different shot and a cool card as a result.
One last card to get is his 2023 Team Canada Juniors. It’s short-printed and he’s wearing the Maple Leaf in an action shot. Keep an eye on this talented prospect.
