Peña spoke with Russ Cohen about her role on the announce team for the upcoming fight.

Julianna Peña – Biography

Julianna Peña was born in Spokane, Washington in 1989. She made her MMA debut in May 2009. In August 2013 it was announced that Peña was selected as one of the fighters to appear on “The Ultimate Fighter: Team Rousey vs. Team Tate“. In her first fight, she scored an upset victory over veteran and top-ten ranked female fighter Shayna Braszier. Peña would go on to defeat Sarah Moras in a semifinals match via guillotine choke. At the Ultimate Fighter 18 Finale, Peña faced off against Jessica Rakoczy. She won the fight via TKO in the final seconds of the first round to become the TUF 18 women’s bantamweight champion.

After an injury held her out of UFC 171, Peña returned to face Milana Dudieva at UFC Fight Night 63. She defeated Dudieva via TKO in the third round while also earning her firstPerformance of the Night bonus award. At UFC 192, Peña defeated Jessica Eye via unanimous decision. She followed that with a victory via unanimous decision over Cat Zingano at UFC 200. On January 28th, 2017, Peña fought Valentina Shevchenko at UFC on Fox 23. She lost the fight via armbar submission in the second round. Later in the year, Peña announced that she was pregnant and would be taking an indefinite hiatus from the sport. She would return nearly two and a half years later to face former UFC Women’s Flyweight Champion Nicco Montaño. Peña would win that fight via unanimous decision.

To date, Julianna Peña has a 9-3 record. Three of her wins have come via knockout, three via submission and three came by decision.

Peña is now an announcer for Combate Americas’ English language broadcast and will be covering the Tito Ortiz/Alberto Del Rio fight on December 7th, 2019.
