Off The Post: Carey Price Keeps Canadiens in Playoff Race on Tuesday – Carey Price stopped 32 of 33 shots snapping a two-game losing streak to help the Montreal Canadiens beat the Philadelphia Flyers 3-1. The Flyers are still chasing the Canadiens in the standings and Montreal is one point behind Columbus for the final Wild Card spot in the East.
Carey Price was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens with the fifth overall pick in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. He would make his NHL debut on October 10th, 2007 and recorded 26 saves in 3-2 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins. Montreal would finish the season with their first division title since the 1991-92 season. Price would finish the regular season leading all rookie goaltenders in wins, save percentage and shutouts. He would be named to the NHL All-Rookie Team. In the playoffs that season, Price recorded a 1-0 win over the Boston Bruins. With the shutout, he became the first Canadiens rookie to post a playoff shutout since Patrick Roy in 1986. Collectors can find Price’s Upper Deck Young Guns rookie card in 2007-08 Series 1 Hockey.
Since the 2007-08 season, Price has been a mainstay in goal for the Canadiens. In 2014-15, he set career highs in wins (44), GAA (1.96) and save percentage (.933). So far this season, he has played in 58 games and has a 30-22 record with a .916 save percentage. The numbers haven’t been elite, but all it takes is a hot couple of weeks for him to get into rhythm for the playoffs. Look for his cards in Upper Deck’s 2018-19 catalog of hockey products including Synergy, O-Pee-Chee, SP Game Used, Trilogy and many more!
