Off the Post: Senators Top Flyers 4-3, Matt Duchene Interview – On Tuesday, November 27th, the Ottawa Senators earned a tough win against the Flyers in Philadelphia. The Flyers led 3-1 heading into the third period, but the Senators stormed back with three goals to end the game with a 4-3 win. Center Matt Duchene scored the winning goal with three minutes left in the period and he spoke with Russ Cohen after the game.

Matt Duchene began his NHL career in the 2009-10 season with the Colorado Avalanche. He was selected third overall by the Avs at the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. He immediately became a fan favorite in Denver after it was revealed he grew up rooting for the Avalanche, and a video of him pumping his fist after he was selected by the Avs surfaced shortly after the draft. Duchene hit the ground running for Colorado, playing in 81 games. As a rookie, he scored 55 points (24 goals, 31 assists) and scored the goal that would send the Avalanche to the Stanley Cup playoffs. In the playoffs that season, Duchene played in six games and earned three assists. You can find his rookie cards in 2009-10 Upper Deck Hockey Card products.

During the 2017-18 season, Duchene was traded to the Ottawa Senators in a three team trade. In 68 games for the Senators in his first season with the team, he scored 49 points with 23 goals and 26 assists. Through 27 games so far this season, Duchene has 33 points (12 goals, 21 assists). He’s in his ninth year and has taken a leadership role among a young group of players in Ottawa.
