Off the Uprights: Aaron Donald Football Cards, Los Angeles Rams – As the Los Angeles Rams and Cincinnati Bengals prepare for Super Bowl LVI on Sunday, February 13th, a lot of the talk will surround the quarterbacks, Joe Burrow and Matthew Stafford. It’s only natural for quarterbacks to receive most of the attention leading up to a game, especially a big game like the Super Bowl. But, there’s one player who should be in the spotlight, as he’s already considered to be one of the all-time defensive greats at the age of 30, Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald.

Aaron Donald Football CardsEver since he entered the National Football League, Donald has been a dominant force. Even though he’s undersized by NFL standards, Donald has developed into one of the most feared defenders the NFL has ever seen. Selected with the 13th overall selection in the 2014 NFL Draft by the then St. Louis Rams, the 6-foot-1, 280-pound Donald made his presence known from Day One. As a rookie, Donald started 12 of the 16 games he played in and recorded 48 total tackles (38 of them solo), 18 tackles for a loss and nine sacks. For his incredible efforts, Donald won the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award and was one of five rookies to be selected to the Pro Bowl.

Since then, Donald has wreaked havoc on the league, especially his play during the 2018 season. In a year where he held out the entire offseason, Donald was finally rewarded with a six-year, $135 million contract extension prior to the start of the season. That turned out to be a wise investment for the Rams, as Donald rewarded them with a legendary campaign where he amassed 59 total tackles (41 of them solo), 25 tackles for a loss and 20.5 sacks. Donald was awarded his second consecutive Defensive Player of the Year award for his incredible season.

Not only has Donalda three-time Defensive Player of the Year winner – been one of the most productive defenders in the NFL, he’s also one of the most durable players. He’s only missed two games during his NFL career. He didn’t play in two games during the 2017 season – one due to a contract holdout and the other because he was resting an injury during the last week of the season.

All that’s missing from Donald’s Hall of Fame resume is two more regular season sacks to reach the 100-career sack milestone and a Super Bowl championship. While Donald will have to wait until next year to reach the sack milestone, he’ll have an opportunity to capture the elusive Lombardi Trophy on Sunday.

In this clip, courtesy of our own Russ Cohen, Donald talked about why the Rams have the best pass rush in the playoffs and what it would mean to win the Super Bowl in Los Angeles. He also praised his teammates.
