PSA Promotes Steve Sloan to President – Steve Sloan has been named President of Professional Sports Authenticator and PSA/DNA Authentication Services (www.PSAcard.com), it was announced earlier today. Sloan, who has served as the company’s vice president over the past year, has been with the collectible industry’s top third-party authentication and grading company since 2012. He previously spent five years as the director of Marketing for Collectors Universe, PSA’s parent company (NASDAQ: CLCT). He assumes responsibilities from Joe Orlando, who has served as PSA President since 2002 and as CEO of Collectors Universe since October of 2017. Orlando will continue in his CEO role, but contributing to PSA in various ways will still be part of his routine.
“While I will still be involved in PSA each day, my responsibilities have increased so it was time to pass the baton to someone who can focus on the day-to-day business, the next president of PSA – Steve Sloan,” said Orlando. “Since taking on the role of Collectors Universe CEO, I have been working with Steve on the transition. Steve will be responsible for the performance of PSA moving forward and there is no doubt in my mind that he is the right person for the job. My contributions to PSA will continue, but it’s important that I further immerse myself in the other segments of the business, namely our coin division [PCGS] at Collectors Universe. Collectors Universe is built on premium brands and we want to leverage that in better ways as we move forward, for our customers and shareholders alike. The services and collectibles information we provide have become staples of the hobby for more than three decades. We simply want to build upon the outstanding foundation Collectors Universe already has.”
Sloan originally landed at PSA following a six-year tenure with The Upper Deck Company where he spearheaded product development efforts for Upper Deck Authenticated. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of San Diego and a Master’s Degree in Business from Cal State San Marcos. He is eager to tackle his expanded role and newfound responsibilities at PSA.
“I am honored to receive this appointment and excited to accept the responsibilities that come with it,” said Sloan. “I’ve devoted my entire career to the collectibles industry and the fact that I’ve worked in different capacities within the hobby for the past 13 years has prepared me to take this next step with PSA. Joe Orlando has been an excellent mentor over my time at Collectors Universe. His leadership has built one of the flagship brands in collecting and I intend to continue to lead PSA on the path that Joe has paved.”
PSA not only has tremendous momentum right now, but lots of exciting projects in the works including those related to new services, Set Registry enhancements and international expansion. Over the past 12 months, PSA has certified more than two million items, which represents a record for the company. In addition, the incoming pace of submissions has produced the largest backlog, by far, in the company’s 27-year history.
