Racing Future Watch: Andres Perez de Lara Racing Cards, NASCAR – Andres Perez de Lara is one of the most tangible representations of NASCAR’s investment in the Mexican market. He became the first foreign-born ARCA Menards Series champion in 2024. The son and brother of race car drivers, Perez de Lara competed alongside his sibling at age 14 in the 2019 NASCAR Formula 4 Championship, winning four races, placing third in the final standings and taking the Rookie of the Year award.
The next year, Perez de Lara moved to the NASCAR Mikel’s Truck Series in Mexico, where he took home the championship. 2021 saw Perez de Lara race the NASCAR FedEx Challenge Series, finishing fourth. In 2022, Perez de Lara won the championship, his second title before reaching adult age!
2022 was also the year that Perez de Lara was selected to join the NASCAR Drive for Diversity program, which provided additional opportunities for advancement. 2023 presented new challenges when Perez de Lara won Rookie of the Year honors with a fourth-place finish in the NASCAR Mexico Series.
Also that year, Perez de Lara ended up replacing defending ARCA Menards Series champion Nick Sanchez in his Rev Racing car. Unable to compete in the season-opening race due to age restrictions, Perez de Lara still managed to finish second for the year with 10 Top 5 finishes and 15 Top 10s.
The championship year of 2024 began on a similarly dim note when Perez de Lara crashed at Daytona. But the rebound came with 10 Top 5s and 17 Top 10s as Perez de Lara clinched the title in the finale at Toledo. Perez de Lara also debuted in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, as he continues to diversify his experience. The results that Perez de Lara has shown thus far mark him as one of the top stock car prospects in the world today.
Collectors are eagerly awaiting many more Perez de Lara cards hitting the market, with the initial Select offering — which includes parallels — being released in 2024. On eBay, the most prized sample is the Select Racing Rookie Trackside Gold Prizm.
