Shohei Ohtani Rookie Baseball Card Guide – The hype surrounding the Japanese Pacific League sensation, Shohei Ohtani, has not even come close to reaching fever pitch yet. It started with hopeful optimism on the part of fans, retailers and collectors following the World Series. With the opening of the off-season free agency period, hope turned to anticipation. That anticipation led to rejoicing when it was announced that the JPL would allow Ohtani to enter MLB free agency. Rejoicing turned to exaltation when it was announced that Ohtani was signed by the Los Angeles Angels.
If the demand for Ohtani’s Topps NOW card is any indication of future demand for 2018 Topps baseball card products, retailers could be in for another banner year. The card set the company’s Topps NOW print run record, selling 17,323 copies in a 24-hour period.
From the standpoint of retailers and collectors, the 2018 baseball card collecting season couldn’t come fast enough. Then came word in early January, that Topps had signed the potential future MLB superstar to a contract that included autographs. Thanks to social media, most notably Instagram and Twitter, images began to make their way to the public that showed Ohtani signing various Topps Cards.
Shohei Ohtani is confirmed to have autographed baseball cards in the upcoming 2018 Topps MLB baseball card releases:
- Bowman Baseball
- Topps Allen and Ginter
- Topps Heritage
- Topps Chrome
There will undoubtedly be others but these are the ones we can confirm.
Not to be outdone, Panini America will also feature Ohtani in several of it’s upcoming MLBAPA licensed baseball card products as well. Their deal with Ohtani insures that collectors will have several choices available to them when it comes to purchasing baseball cards on the primary and/or secondary market.
