Soccer Future Watch: Gianluca Prestianni Soccer Cards, Benfica – Gianluca Prestianni is still a very young player, but he has already fought his way through adversity. Some of that has been very unusual, such as being punched in the face repeatedly when his team was attacked. The pursuit of Prestianni, which ended with him joining Benfica in January 2024 at age 18 for a contract that secures him until 2029, looks set to repeat itself in the international arena in the years to come. Italy, a country of Prestianni’s ancestry, is set to joust with Argentina, the country of his birth, for his services. Such is the regard for this athletic young winger’s upside.
Prestianni first donned professional colors for Velez Sarsfield in the Copa Libertadores in May 2022. Within 18 months, The Guardian named him as one of the best players in the world born in 2006. Prestianni made quite an impression in 2023 Liga Professional Argentina play. Against his positional peers, he ranked the top 95th percentile in successful take-ons and throw-ins taken. He was in the 92nd in take-ons attempted and the 91st in interceptions and passes into the penalty area. In progressive carries and progressive carrying distance he ranked in the 89th percentile.
Prestianni’s key international experience at this point has been with the Argentina under-17 team. As Prestianni gains more experience with Benfica and becomes an even greater object of interest between Italy and Argentina, the comparisons to a young Lionel Messi are likely to grow.
Prestianni has parallels and inserts on the market since 2023 from Topps UEFA Club Competitions and Topps Argentina Filetaedo. Prestianni’s most coveted cards presently on eBay are the 2024-25 Topps UEFA Club Competitions New Era Auto and the 2024 Topps UEFA New Era Rookie A Benfica.
