Soccer Future Watch: Josha Vagnoman Soccer Cards, VfB Stuttgart – Josha Vagnoman dealt with adversity for a good part of 2024, missing action with a foot injury from early April to August 31. But bouncing back is nothing new for Vagnoman. He has already proven that injuries cannot alter his trajectory towards becoming one of the world’s finest defensemen.
First entering the Hamburger SV youth system in 2010, Vagnoman climbed the ladder for eight years. Then he was promoted to Bundesliga play. At only 89 days past his 17th birthday, Vagnoman became the youngest player in the then 99-year history of the franchise.
The 2018-19 season marked Vagnoman’s first one full-time in Bundesliga. Always able to help offensively from the defensive unit, Vagnoman produced an interesting statistical oddity. For four seasons starting in 2020-202, he completed each campaign with exactly two goals and two assists.
This phenomenal consistency came despite battling injuries at various times: a tear in the outer ligament and an inner ligament strain in his left ankle, a thigh strain, a torn muscle fiber and torn tendon and another ankle strain. Again and again, Vagnoman clawed back as quickly as he could, resuming his rapidly improving play each time.
Placing in the top 90th percentile in non-penalty goals and the 85th in pass completion percentage in the last year in Bundesliga play among defensemen, Vagnoman’s rise continues, now in a VfB Stuttgart uniform. Previously a staple on the under-17, under-18, under-19 and under-20 national teams, Vagnoman now competes for the German senior national team. He is also eligible for Ivory Coast participation because of heritage should he ever choose to do so. A strong team-oriented contributor, Vagnoman projects as a huge impact player in league and international play for a long time to come.
