The Patriots’ well-balanced attack saw them finish the NFL regular season with a 14-2 record, clinching home field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs. In the Divisional Round, New England defeated the Houston Texans 34-16, granting the team a spot in the AFC Championship game for an impressive 6th consecutive season.
Going up against the storied Pittsburgh Steelers, New England showcased its dominance on both sides of the football with a 36-17 victory, crowing them AFC Champions for the 9th time in franchise history, and sending them to Houston, TX where they would meet the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI.
Boasting one of the highest scoring offenses during the 2016 NFL season, the Atlanta Falcons scored early and scored often to start Super Bowl LI. After quarterback Matt Ryan’s touchdown pass connected with 8:31 left in the third quarter, the Falcons held a 28-3 lead. It was here where Super Bowl MVP Tom Brady engineered a comeback of historical proportions.
