Future Watch: Tyler Johnson Football Cards, Tampa Bay Buccaneers – The Bucs drafted Tyler Johnson with the 161st overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Who says a fifth rounder can’t have some impact? 

Johnson attended North Community High School in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In high school, he was a quarterback and a defensive back. Hey, he’s a good athlete. He decided to attend his hometown University of Minnesota and play for the famed Golden Gophers as a wide receiver. In 2016, as a true freshman, Johnson played in all 13 games and had 14 receptions for 141 yards and a touchdown.

In 2017, Johnson started the first ten games before missing two contests with injury. He ended up with 35 catches for 677 yards and seven touchdowns. In 2018, he started in all 13 games. This was a banner year as the pass-catcher hauled in 78 balls good for 1,169 yards and 12 touchdowns. He set a school record for the yardage and touchdowns. He was voted First Team All-Big Ten for the first time, and he would get that honor in 2019 as well after catching 86 passes for 1,318 yards and 13 touchdowns, leading the Big Ten In the Outback Bowl, he had 12 catches for 204 yards with two touchdowns, his team won the game, and he was voted the MVP. He was ready for the NFL Draft.

At the NFL Combine, Johnson didn’t compete, opting for Minnesota’s Pro Day instead.

Johnson’s first few NFL games were uneventful, but he broke out a bit in Week Five against the Chicago Bears on Thursday Night Football. He had four catches for 61 yards, the most on his team.
