Embiid played one year for Kansas where he earned Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year honors. The 7 foot, 250 pound center was obviously an NBA ready player.

One scouting report had this to say about Embiid ahead of the 2014 NBA Draft. “Posted outstanding per-40-minutes numbers in his lone season at Kansas, averaging 19.4 points, 14 rebounds, and 4.5 blocks … An agile and mobile center, with nimble feet, good speed, great quickness, and vertical explosiveness … Excellent around the rim, scoring regularly on put-backs and alley-oops.”

Unfortunately, shortly before the draft, Embiid had surgery to repair a broken bone in his foot. He missed the entire 2014-15 season. A subsequent injury set him back even further. As a result, he also missed the entire 2015-16 NBA season as well.

Joel Embiid is now healthy and dominating for the Sixers. The organization’s faith in him is paying off in a big way. He is currently posting, per-game averages of: 23.2 minutes, 18.7 points, 7.9 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 2.2 blocks.
