Future Watch: Aaron Ashby Baseball Cards, Milwaukee Brewers

Future Watch: Aaron Ashby Baseball Cards, Milwaukee Brewers – Aaron Ashby was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 4th round of the 2018 MLB Amateur Draft. The 6′ 2″ pitcher started his career at Crowder College.

At Crowder, Ashby pitched a gem against Mineral General College. In eight innings, he gave up just five hits and one run. He walked three and struck out 17 in a commanding 10-1 win. Anytime you strike out 17, it’s worth noting. In his last year at Crowder, this top prospect struck out 156 in 74.2 innings.

Ashby’s curveball is nasty, a true plus pitch that he can also manipulate to have harder, slider-like action. He opened his sophomore season throwing in the upper 80s but now sits 91-94 mph and can touch 96. His change-up has come along quickly in his first full season and gives Ashby a third big league-caliber pitch that he uses to neutralize right-handed hitters. Ashby works from the third-base side of the mound and has an athletic but funky delivery that masks everything he throws with deception.

Ashby’s delivery also can hamper his ability to throw strikes at times, and the Brewers hope to smooth it out without costing him any of his natural deception. He might not have the cleanest profile and does come with some risk, but Ashby’s bat-missing ability is undeniable and could help him rise through the ranks relatively quickly en route to a back-of-the-rotation role, perhaps even more. I’m pegging his ETA at 2021.

In 2018, Ashby combined for a 2-3 record, throwing 57 2/3 innings while striking out 66 and notching a save as well in Rookie and A Ball.

In 2019, he played for two more teams where he won five games. He threw 126 innings, while only yielding 101 hits and striking out 135 including one complete game.

Here’s his back story:

Collectors can find his rookie card in 2020 Bowman Chrome Prospect.

Baseball is in his blood and he wears cool goggles. His uncle Andy Ashby was a pitcher, playing 14 seasons for five MLB teams.

Collect this guy, he has the stuff.
